about

The Living Tissue was originally released in 2001 on the Hands Productions label as a CD and double vinyl (in a numbered edition of 300). The album was the result of an audio/visual research project funded by the Canada Council for the Arts. Hands also released an accompanying 60 minute video on VHS tape. Like the Surface (2000) and Other Voices (2001) 12"s, this album was inspired by the Canadian school of acoustic ecology, which studies the relationship between living things and their environment through sound. All sounds were created from location recordings in and around the city of Hamilton, Ontario.
