Tj Sears I wasn't there during the earlier years of Orphx but Primordial State shook my foundation! I highly recommend this album for the deep texture, rich emotion and experimental noise that became what Orphx has transcended into- pure Industrial Techno/ambient noise today! Favorite track: Ekstasis.

This collection of live recordings is a deep dive into the nightmarish soundscapes and destroyed rhythms that characterized the early work of the project. Edited into a continuous mix, Primordial State conjures the ritualistic, dreamlike atmosphere of early Orphx performances and shows how studio material was developed and mutated through live improvisation, including the nascent forms of compositions that would later appear on the Fragmentation album (re-released as an expanded box set on Hospital Productions in 2020).

"Orphx have become renowned for their Industrial-Techno approach, mixed with minimal electro and even IDM, but this work reminds us of the way it all started. The sound is more improvised and experimental. It sounds a bit like a post-Industrial composition: a follow-up to early SPK. The songs are mixing Industrial and Noise elements, now and then carried by rhythms and sometimes featuring vocal effects. Track 3 recorded March 2, 1995, at CFMU radio, McMaster University (Hamilton). Tracks 4, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13 and 16 recorded March 11, 1995, at the Music Gallery (Toronto). Track 12 recorded July 9, 1995, at The Rivoli (Toronto). Edited, mixed and mastered by Rich Oddie in the spring of 2021.
