about

"Shackleton, Miles, Deadbeat and Orphx give excellent remixes of veteran Canadian post-punks, Nomeansno. Originally released in 2012, it seems like this 12" didn't really make it to any shops, which is a bit crazy considering the strength of quality from each remixer. Deadbeat gives an arid, driving industrial techno version of 'The River' from the group's 'Why Do They Call Me Mr. Happy?' (1993) album, eschewing his dub-drenched signature in favour of churning bass and saltier FX, whilst Shackleton applies patented bassbin mystic vibes to 'Dark Ages' from their 'Small Parts Isolated And Destroyed' (1988) LP, resulting in a miasma of descending sub-bass, uneasy synthlines and paranoid vocals ranking among his finest remixes. Flip it for Miles' (Demdike Stare) taut, hollowed-out 'Enigma Wrapped In A Conundrum Redo' techno remix of of 'Rags And Bones' from the band's 'Wrong' (1989) LP, and Orphx splay 'Metronome' from their 'Sex Mad' (1986) LP to come off like Regis' steppin' techno remix of Ike Yard. Excellent twelve!" - Boomkat
